A Virginia Tech student has apparently fallen off the Carnival Glory. An official with Carnival Cruise line released a statement saying that the 21 year-old was reported missing from the Carnival ship on Sunday morning. Review of the camera footage confirmed that he went overboard.
The Carnival Glory returned to the location and performed a search for a period of time. The Carnival Elation deviated from its course and joined the search and rescue operations.
A Passenger aboard stated they did not make port call at Half Moon Cay, and instead did circles around the area where the incident happened.
The U.S Coast Guard continues to conduct their search and rescue efforts in the area near to Great Abaco Island, Bahamas.
In the statement, Carnival officials said, “We extend our heartfelt sympathy and concern for the family and loved ones of our missing guest.” Carnival is providing support to the companions traveling with the guest.
The Carnival Glory is based out of Miami. The ship was on its first leg of a seven day cruise.
It is truly sad when this happens to families on vacation. My prayers go out to the friends and family of the missing student.
